Moon Festival

GMB Oil Painting

Moon Festival is a traditional holiday, also known as Mid-Autumn Festival. It occurs on the 15th day of the 8th moon, which is a full moon. People traditionally gaze at the moon, light fireworks, barbecue (cao rou), and eat moon cakes. There was no moon-gazing this time; the typhoon weather was obscuring the sky.

We first headed to Yen Mama's house for a good Taiwanese lunch, then over to a barbecue at the temple with Jean and her family. As usual, there were lots of kids and plenty of things to eat and drink.

Snakes

See Newell Ann get friendly with one of the temple's snakes! The temple has two snakes and one dog. The dog's name is Xiao Hei, or "Little Black".
